How to Choose Art Prints for Every Room in Your Home

26 June 2026

Choosing art prints is easier when you stop trying to find the one perfect picture for the whole house. Each room does a different job, so the print should feel right for that space: calm in a bedroom, confident in a living room, cheerful in a kitchen, or personal in a hallway.

Here is a simple room-by-room way to choose prints that feel intentional rather than random.

Start with the mood of the room

Before you pick colours or sizes, ask what the room should feel like.

A living room might need warmth and personality. A bedroom usually needs calm. A hallway can take something bolder because you only pass through it. A kitchen can handle playful food, botanical or graphic prints. A home office often benefits from cleaner artwork that feels focused without being dull.

This makes choosing much easier. Instead of asking "what print do I like?", ask "what do I want this room to feel like?"

Living room prints

The living room is usually the best place for a stronger statement print. It is where people sit, talk, relax and notice the walls.

Good choices include:

  • larger animal prints
  • bold botanical prints
  • landscapes with depth
  • colourful illustrated artwork
  • a mixed gallery wall above a sofa

If the wall is above a sofa, sideboard or fireplace, avoid going too small. One A2 or A1 print can work beautifully, or you can use a group of A4 and A3 prints to build a softer gallery wall. Our size guide is useful if you are unsure which format will suit the space.

Bedroom prints

Bedrooms usually work best with quieter artwork. That does not mean boring, but it does mean the print should not fight the room.

Look for:

  • softer colours
  • calming landscapes
  • gentle floral prints
  • minimalist line art
  • warm neutrals, greens, blues or muted pinks

Above a bed, one larger print or a pair of matching A3 prints can look polished without feeling busy. If the room already has patterned bedding or strong colour, choose a simpler print with more negative space.

Kitchen and dining room prints

Kitchens and dining rooms are good places to be a little more playful. Food and drink prints work naturally here, but botanical prints, colourful animals and cheerful illustrations can also suit the space.

For a kitchen, smaller A4 or A3 prints often work well because wall space can be broken up by cupboards, shelves and tiles. In a dining room, you can usually go larger, especially on a blank wall near the table.

If you want a pulled-together look, choose prints that repeat one or two colours already in the room, such as green from plants, cream from walls, or warm terracotta from wood and ceramics.

Hallway and staircase prints

Hallways are perfect for gallery walls because you can enjoy a collection of smaller pieces as you move through the house.

A simple formula is:

  • one main A3 print as the anchor
  • two or three A4 prints around it
  • a shared colour palette to keep everything connected

Hallways can take more personality than people think. Dog prints, cat prints, family-inspired artwork or travel-style landscapes all work well because the space is transitional and personal.

Our bundle builder is useful here because you can mix prints while keeping the set feeling planned.

Home office prints

For a workspace, avoid anything too chaotic. You want prints that make the space feel good without pulling your attention away all day.

Good options include:

  • clean botanical prints
  • simple landscapes
  • calm animal artwork
  • minimal line art
  • softer abstract or colour-led pieces

If your office is also visible on video calls, think about what sits behind you. A single A3 or A2 print can give the background some character without making it look cluttered.

Children's rooms and nurseries

Children's rooms can be sweet, playful and personal without becoming too themed. Animals, soft landscapes, stars, flowers and illustrated prints are easy choices because they can grow with the room.

For nurseries, choose gentle colours and clear shapes. For older children, a bolder animal or space print can feel more fun.

If you want something personal, you can use Design Your Own Print to create a custom idea, or Print My Photo if you have a photo you would like turned into a made-to-order print.

Match by colour, not by exact theme

One of the easiest ways to make prints look good together is to match the colour palette rather than the subject.

For example, a green botanical print can sit beautifully beside a dog print if they share soft greens, creams or warm neutrals. A landscape can work with a portrait if the tones feel connected.

You do not need every print in a room to be from the same collection. You just need a few repeated colours so the wall feels deliberate.

Choose the right finish

Matte is the safest choice for most rooms because it has less glare and a softer finish. It is especially good for bedrooms, hallways and gallery walls.

Glossy gives stronger colour and contrast, so it can suit photography, bold graphic artwork and rooms where you want a sharper look.

If the print will sit opposite a window or under bright light, matte is usually easier to live with.

The simple rule

If you are stuck, keep it simple:

  1. Choose the feeling you want in the room.
  2. Pick two or three colours that already exist there.
  3. Choose a size that suits the wall, not just the screen.
  4. Use matte unless you specifically want a glossy finish.

That will get you most of the way there.
